This morning, we celebrated Mya's 4th birthday at Jungle Land!

At this point, I feel like all the kids have high expectations for parties thrown by my sister. She rented out the giant indoor playground for us, had a photo backdrop, gave out play-doh sets as favours, ordered a four-layer birthday cake, made sure we were full and hydrated before we left, and even remembered to make candy shish kabobs.

This was also the first time we had my 6-month-old nephew join in on the fun! He was so good the whole time, and made sure his sister got all the attention she deserved.

I could tell my niece was having the time of her life, and so did the adults!!

It's been so much fun watching Mya grow up and try new things. She's now speaking to us in full sentences, has food preferences, can zip up her own coats, knows how to apply nail polish, uses the washroom all by herself, rarely drops food on her clothes, is able to trace letters and numbers, recognizes landmarks in our neighbourhood and continues surprising us with how independent she's become.

It's never a dull time with this girl, and I swear we're all better for knowing her. As much as she is watching and learning from us, she doesn't realize she's taught us the most important lesson of all—to be kinder to ourselves.

We love you more than you'll ever know, Mya! Wishing you the happiest birthday!
