Happy 19th Birthday, Madelle!

Since I couldn't make it to Madelle's birthday gathering at her place this Wednesday, I promised I would make it up to her by treating her to lunch on Friday! I actually have a list of places I want to eat in Toronto and Mildred's Temple Kitchen is at the top of my list. We met up yesterday afternoon and Madelle told me that she didn't Google the place because she wanted it to be a surprise! (Too cute!)

When we both walked in, we were both impressed with the interior of the place! It was so fresh, minimal and welcoming. Madelle told me it was one of the nicest place she has ever dined at! (Same here gurrl, same here!!) Our waiter was also super friendly and was totally cool with us snapping photos and even helped us!! ^^^

It was a really nice afternoon sipping on cocktails and eating tasty comfort food! All the portions they gave us were literally the perfect size. To top off our meal, we shared their famous Venus Bar together. It was fluffy, nutty, chewy and really satisfied our sweet tooth! Thanks for the great time Mildred, we'll be back for your dinner menu soon!

I hope you had a great day Madelle because you deserve nothing but the best! Love you! xx

New Me

I've been waiting to share this decision on my blog ever since I've decided to transition into this 'lifestyle.' I wanted to see if I could survive one week of it before blogging about it y'know. Three weeks has passed and I honestly think becoming a vegetarian was one of the best decisions I had ever made. I already knew that I would stop ignoring the facts some day and fully commit to this diet!

I still remember that day in grade one when I found out that the chicken that I was singing songs about in class was the same chicken my mom was feeding me for dinner. I thought we just called it chicken as.. I don't know.. a name... like hot dog doesn't literally come from a dog.. that kind of thing. When I realized there was a correlation, it was a weird concept for my six year old brain to grasp. I eventually considered it as the norm since everyone around me was eating meat like it was no big deal.

Fast forward to a few years later, I remember pronouncing my love for meat to my sister and even laughed at the idea of becoming a vegan with my friends. I do feel like a hypocrite now for my ignorant opinions.

The idea of being a vegetarian was planted in my head when I stumbled upon a Youtube video on animal cruelty last year and after watching it, I was swayed to try going vegetarian for a week. I caved in eventually when I just didn't want to go through the need of explaining my choice to others.

Thing is, the thought of being a vegetarian still continued to intrigued me since. I watched two more documentaries on animal cruelty and slowly cut beef out of my diet. Until recently, one of my favourite bloggers posted a video which greatly influenced her decision of becoming a vegan. I always thought being a vegan was extreme and super restrictive but I kept my mind open and watched the video. (If you're one of those people who thinks that you can't get protein without meat or that you need milk for strong bones, I encourage you to watch the video because I use to share the same opinion as you!!)

After watching that last video, something finally flicked inside of me and I just couldn't go ahead with ignoring the truth and eating meat anymore. At the same time, I also questioned whether or not I was getting brainwashed and if the information I was being provided was the truth. Nonetheless, I decided that I should just give it a shot and if I felt sick or anything, I'll just convert right back to my old diet.

After three weeks of this lifestyle, I FEEL SO GOOD. I don't feel the need to nap on the bus anymore or after a heavy meal, my skin started to clear up a lot, bloating only last for half an hour and I have so much energy all day long!!! My employees comment on how I'm always smiling at everyone and it's because I just feel so good inside now!

I've also started to reflect on my life a whole lot more and thought about all the areas I wanted to change or improve about myself!!
  1. For starters, I increased my water intake from one bottle a day to a minimum of four!
  2. I'm waking up and reminding myself that today will be enjoyable and that it's non-negotiable.
  3. I started blogging more for myself and not what others want to read. (You may notice I deleted a few blog posts that didn't have happy memories attached to them.)
  4. I'm starting to become more aware of the consequences of my actions.
  5. I've been making lots of new friends lately by just simply saying hi to the person beside me in the elevator or yoga mat!
  6. Speaking of yoga mat, I am trying my best to not let my mind wander off and think about the list of things I have to do and just relax and enjoy the moment I'm in.
  7. I'm moisturizing a whole lot more (I'm currently obsessed with this and this!).
  8. I'm not straining my eyes to stay up anymore.
  9. I'm spending more time talking about the things that I love.
  10. I deleted songs that do not have happy memories attached to them.

In short, I like this new lifestyle. :)

xx

Chewiness

After Jessie's exam yesterday, we met up at Bathurst station to go for lunch! Since we're both pretty obsessed with macarons, we decided to check out the place my friend Jaey recommended to me a while back! When we walked into Delysees, we were already impressed with their decor and wide selection of macaron flavours! I think it actually took us like 10 minutes to decide which macarons to try!! LOL

Their mini sandwiches also caught our attention so we tried those as well with their sparkly lemonade! I haven't seen Jessie since... last semester I think! Wow. Thing is, even though we didn't see each other often this year, we're so caught up on each other's lives. Would you believe me if I told you that my high school friends and I still talk as a group every single day on Facebook... ever since last summer?!

They're usually the first and last people I talk to each day and we got to the point where our conversation has become so effortless that we don't have to filter ourselves at all. We can just send whatever weird Youtube video we find / rant about any topic / share new songs / tell each other what our latest food obsession is (yogurt, prunes, blueberries) / post selfies of us in our robes... and pretty much anything that is on our mind! LOL

After eating their scrumptious mini sandwiches, Jessie and I didn't want to eat their pretty macarons until we took lots of pictures of them at various angles!! Once I took a bite, I realized that I like macarons that have a bit of chewiness to them and these were just a bit fragile for me. I really liked their flavours though!

After we had lunch together, it was time for me to leave her for my first day at my new part-time job! I was excited but at the same time, I wanted to spend the whole day exploring with Jess! I can't wait until she's done her last exam because there are so many things the fab 5 has planned to do together this summer!!!

Secretly

I realized I forgot to blog about my adventure up in Stouffville last weekend with my siblings and my sister's friend! We visited the Sugarbush Maple Syrup Festival and let's just say it did not reach our expectations...

It was all of our first time attending so we pretty much just lined up wherever we saw a long line. The longest line was the one for the Wagon Ride! We made a stop at the gift shop first to pick up some sweet maple syrup treats and I'm so glad we did! It became a great distraction as we waited until it was our turn to ride the wagon.

Our plan was to ride the wagon and then line up for the other line to go for a walk around the forest! But who knew that we would end up standing in the line for an hour and a half!

Not only that... we realized that each ride only lasted for 5 minutes! I always try my best to look on the bright side of things but.. but.. but... this was just ridiculous.

When it was finally our turn, we were not amused. A family sat in front of us and told us, "Yeah.. our three year old isn't impressed either." LOL

Since most of our afternoon was gone after waiting for the ride, we thought that ending our day with pancakes would be a great highlight! My sister's friend and I shared a plate of pancakes and we were given that mini cup of syrup for them. I really don't know who thought that was a good ratio of syrup to pancakes?! She's like, "It's okay Cindy, we can save some calories!" I responded, "Hahaha... ya!!!" (Secretly dying inside after as I swallowed some bland pancakes.)

On the bright side, that was a tasty maple syrup lollipop! LOL

Almost Done

After writing my three hour computer science exam today, I met up with my best friend, Joycelyn! I follow a few Instagram accounts based in Toronto and I saw one user uploaded a photo of her vegan lunch from Hot Beans and it looked so good!!

I had never ate at a vegan place before so I was certainly intrigued by the meal and wanted to try it out for myself! We had lunch there today and I ordered their famous BBQ jackfruit tacos! After finishing the first taco, I was already stuffed and couldn't continue on with my second one. Plus, the taste got really overwhelming after a while. After we ate, I joked with her and asked if she wanted to get macarons (like the last time we hung out!) The thing I love about Joycelyn is that she's always down for anything!

I told her I haven't had macarons from Petite Thuet since that time I got it with her two years ago! With that said, we unknowingly walked an hour from Kensington Market to King Street for macarons!

I'll admit, their macarons are a bit pricer than most places but in terms of quality, they're so worth it! They're bigger than the average size, more filling in the center and less fragile! Every time I visit a macaron shop, I always pick up a few for my sister to try too! We both agreed that there is still no other place that can beat La Bamboche's macarons yet (or maybe we are a bit bias since that was where we tried our first macarons ever!)

After we indulged, Olivia (Joy's older sister) met up with us ...and we randomly decided to go to Harbourfront! The weather was definitely working in our favour today and I really hope it just gets warmer from here on out!!! I'm soooo about dis lyfe!

When we got to Harbourfront, Joycelyn and I realized that we had walked all the way from Bathurst Station to Union Station today! Thing is, I was actually contemplating if I should go home early to go to yoga today but I realized that the long walk was actually sufficient! LOL

I just realized now that whenever I hang with Joycelyn downtown, we rarely take the transit unless we are going home! I think it's actually a good thing though because she's helping me become more street smart! LOL

I just have one more exam to go this week and I am officially done my first year of University!!! I'm so excited to start living my life again and spending more time with all my favourite people!

I'm also excited to finally have some more time for leisure reading! (I'm so nerdy! LOL) Right now, I can't put down the book, "The 100 year Old Man Who Climbed Out The Window and Disappeared!"
